Umbrella Revolution 2014

On September 22nd 2014 a fellow classmate asked me to join him to the kickoff for a student strike happening in Hong Kong later on the fall of 2014. I joined in, hoping of getting a few shots for my photography class. Over the next couple of weeks the strike evolved to occupying the main roads on Hong Kong Island bringing students and adults to camp in the streets to demand democracy and not elections ruled by the Chinese government. The protest got the name "Umbrella Revolution" for the use of (yellow) umbrellas when the police started using tear gas against the protesters.
An estimated 13 000 student gathered at Chinese university in Hong Kong to support the student strike to demand democratic elections in the territory.
Demonstrators in Hong Kong marching to chief executive of Hong Kong, Leung Chun-ying's house to "arrest him" for not answering to their demands. Demonstrator with signs telling people to join Occuopying Central.
At demonstration in the area Admiralty in Hong Kong, demonstrating for democratic elections in the territory. A little girl is trying on the plastic that is supposed to keep her safe from tear gass. Others where slightly more prepared with home made protection out of plastic foil.
The occupation of several areas of Hong Kongs roads went on from September to December 2014. The occupation was done by the citizens of Hong Kong derby many students, skipping class to live in the street. Some brought their books and studies while protesting. People would hold speeches about their agenda and democracy, and to keep the spirit up among the protesters.
